HOW IT WORKS

  • Components: A standard compression fitting consists of three parts: the body of the fitting, a compression nut, and a compression ring (often called a "ferrule").

  • The Process: As you tighten the nut onto the body of the fitting, it forces the ferrule against the tapered seat inside the body.

  • The Seal: This action compresses (deforms) the ferrule onto the pipe, creating a watertight or airtight seal between the pipe, the ferrule, and the fitting body.

    Key Advantages

    • No Special Tools: You only need two wrenches (or a wrench and pliers) to install these fittings, making them ideal for DIY repairs where expensive pressing tools are unavailable.

    • Reusability: Because they do not rely on permanent deformation of the pipe itself or permanent crimping, these fittings can often be disassembled and reassembled if needed, provided the ferrule is not damaged.

    • Versatility: They are commonly used with copper, plastic, and PEX piping in various household applications, such as under-sink water supply connections.
